Dog Days of Denton welcomes FRIENDLY DOGS and their owners. All owners are responsible and liable for their pet(s). For everyone’s safety, dogs MUST BE ON A LEASH and have CURRENT VACCINATIONS.
The event takes place rain or shine – in the event of rain, come prepared with an umbrella, wear old shoes and have a good time!
During festival hours, attendees can enjoy a canine couture fashion show, live entertainment, “Glamfur” photos, hand-crafted arts/crafts for pets and people, pet care products and information, general products and services for your home and pet, pet rescue groups, fantastic festival foods, and there’s more…
Demos and performances by canines and their trainers, in addition to contests you can participate in, abound at the event! Check out the full schedule for details. Some of the usual highlights include: contests like the Canine Couture Costume Contest, Pet Tricks, Dancing with the Dog Contest, How Obedient is Your Dog, and Dog Singing Contests, as well demos by dog ‘n disc.
You can also compete in the popular Spokesdog Pageant (must be entered in advance – DEADLINE September 25, 2017).
Don’t miss your chance to try the agility course or the Canine Lure Course ($5/course donation going to Leader Dog Project).
Attendees are welcome to bring pet food donations for the Denton Animal Shelter and drop them off at the Information Booth.
Pooches and their people will find the traditional “GlamFur” Shots of your furry friend. At the event, you can choose costumes and accessories from our vast assortment and receive a custom photo of your pet. $5 per photo.emos and contests abound at the event!
Type will vary and will be announced closer to the event date.
To try the agility course and the canine lure course, we ask for a donation of $5 to help the Lions Club Leader Dog Project.
- The Spokesdog Pageant requires entry in advance.
- All other contests are stage call, so be ready about 15 minutes before scheduled time.
- Please note the stage events, demos, & contest times may vary/change due to length of time it takes to complete the previous event.
Spokesdog Pageant: This contest has been a tradition since 1995. Spokesdogs have been promoting this original festival for 20 years. The winner of this year’s pageant will be the spokesdog for the upcoming 2018 event. The Spokesdog Pageant requires entry in advance. (DEADLINE September 25, 2017).
The following are stage call contests, so no advanced sign-up is required, but please be near the main stage approximately 10-15 minutes prior to the scheduled time.
Dancing with the Dogs: Bring your own music on an iPod and come prepared with a routine that is between 30 sec to 1 minute. Routines and songs must be family-friendly, keep the safety of the dog and the owner in mind, and the surface area for dancing is a carpeted area that is approximately 20’ by 20’. This is a stage call contest, but contestants must bring own music and have a prepared routine ready for the contest.
How Obedient is Your Dog: Owners will be given a list of commands to give his/her dog and the dog who responds to the most commands, and with most accuracy wins.
Canine Couture Costume Contest: Come with Fido decked out in the best creative costume or cool canine fashion. The best dressed and the cutest will compete in this fun contest.
Pet Tricks: Practice makes perfect. Get your pooch trained to do some fun tricks and compete one of the top three places.
Dog Singing: Bark your way to the top! Pooches belt out their best howls adding to the fun in this popular Dog Days contest.
Heinz 57: This traditional contest has been a hit over the years. No pedigree or special talent required for this one. Enter the most fitting of the 12 categories (note, these are subject to change): Oldest, Longest Ears, Shortest Ears, Longest Tongue, Shortest Tongue, Longest Legs, Shortest Legs, Fluffiest Hair, Shortest Hair, Best Dressed, Dog Owner Look-Alike and Dog Who Traveled the Farthest.
